“You had to be there”...
The thrift community of 1991 is symbolic of the thrift community that had developed as a way to rebrand the idea of “hand-me-downs” and the negative stigma it received. Chicago Southside (Englewood) community was home to a circuit of 10+ thrift stores that soon became a network of vendors that was responsible for clothing over 500+ families in the community.
